Christ In You
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, … that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph. 3:14,16-19
Who can fathom the unfathomable? Who can comprehend the incomprehensible? No one! Yet that is exactly what Paul prays for you. It is only possible when Christ dwells in your hearts through faith. Where Christ dwells two amazing things happen.
First, in Christ, you are “rooted and grounded in love.” Like a great tree that has strong roots going deep into the ground, you can weather any storm when Christ dwells in your heart through faith. Your faith grows in the fertile ground of God’s love. It is God’s love in Christ which made the ultimate sacrifice to save us from our sins that draws us to Him in faith. It is also that love in Christ which makes us confident and firm in God’s promises to be with us and to give us eternal life.
Second, in Christ, we are able “to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height.” The love of God in Christ stretches out in every direction imaginable. His love is so deep that He loves the unlovable. It is so high it transcends all understanding. It is so wide and long there isn’t a single thing that cannot be engulfed in His love. May you grow in knowing “the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
O Father, we thank and praise you for your great love in Christ. Grant me your Spirit that I may know that love more fully and live in it. Amen.
