2024-07-19 Mindful of Confession

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

Here we see what the servant’s mind means for THE Servant. Here we see what Christ’s obedience and humility earned Him. The glory belongs to Him alone. The name that is above every name is Jesus Christ. He gives us a part of that name. We are Christians. We are a part of the name that saves. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Peter’s confession in Acts 4 is our confession as well. That Jesus is who He confessed that He was. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) He is the One and only Savior. He is the only way to heaven.

What you say about Jesus says a lot about you. If you say that He is just some pious teacher, or that He was just someone who only talked about love, that is not enough. The world has seen other “pious” and “loving” teachers before. Jesus is more than that. He is true God and true Man. He is my Savior, the sufficient payment for my sins.

What we say about Jesus says a lot about our God. Flesh and blood have not revealed who He is to us, but only His heavenly Father. It is only by the Holy Spirit that we are able to confess that He is Lord. When He returns, all will confess what we confess, to the glory of God. May He ever keep us mindful of this glorious confession.

At the name of Jesus, Every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess Him King of glory now,
'Tis the Father’s pleasure, We should call Him Lord,
Who from the beginning, Was the mighty Word.
