Sermon on the Mount

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21

A couple once bought a nice piece of property out in the country that had an old run-down house on the land. This couple loved their house in the city, but thought it would be nice to have a countryside retreat to escape to now and again. As the years went by, they slowly made improvements to their countryside retreat. Floors were replaced, and appliances were updated. The couple found themselves spending more time and money restoring their ramshackle retreat than they spent on the house they lived in, though it was certainly in need of upkeep as well. Even though updating that old country house ate up hours of their time, the couple found themselves falling in love with country living.

Before they knew it, the couple had sold their house in the city and moved full-time to the country. They fulfilled in an earthly way what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. They poured the treasure of their time, talents, and energy into the countryside house, and their heart followed.

What do you find yourself pouring your time and treasures into lately? Is it something that you want to set your heart after? Your Savior hopes that it is Him because He wants your heart. He wants your heart because He found a place for you in His heart. He spent His time and the very treasure of His own life on you. Praise be to Jesus who bought you back from the condemnation of hell with His very own body and blood!

Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
