Noah
Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:22 NIV
When God told Noah to build an ark, the command must have sounded strange. There had never been a flood like the one God described. Yet Noah obeyed. He trusted God’s word and acted on it, even when the outcome was unseen along with peer pressure and ridicule all around him. The flood was God’s judgment on a world hardened in sin. Noah “retained the true worship of God” and lived in reverent fear while others mocked him. Martin Luther imagined Noah enduring ridicule like: “Art thou alone wise? Shall we all be damned?”
Obedience is often tested in seasons of uncertainty. We want clarity before commitment, but faith calls us to trust even when the path is unclear. Noah’s obedience preserved life and fulfilled God’s plan. This reminds us that obedience is not about understanding every detail; it’s about trusting the One who does.
Jesus perfectly modeled this kind of obedience. Philippians 2:8 says Jesus “became obedient to death—even death on a cross.” His obedience secured salvation for all. When we struggle to obey, we look to Christ, who obeyed fully for us and now empowers us through His Spirit.
Today, God may be asking you to take a step that feels risky—sharing your faith, forgiving someone, or making a decision that stretches your comfort zone. Like Noah, you may not have all the answers. However, obedience opens the door for God’s blessing. Thankfully, because of Jesus, we obey not to earn God’s favor but because we already have it in Jesus.
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your perfect obedience. Help me follow Your example and trust Your wisdom over mine. Amen.
