1. There are many other stories of Elisha we didn’t have time to cover in five short devotions. Take some time to read through 2 Kings 2:15-25 which follows the account of Elijah being taken up to heaven and passing his mantle on to Elisha. It is clear in the account that God desires everyone to know that Elisha does indeed have the Spirit of Elijah and so to respect his office and work.
– Why do you think God dealt so harshly with the youths who mocked Elisha?
– Why do you think they said, “go up, go up?” What are some attitudes in your heart and life towards your called pastor and ministry of the word that might be similar?
– What promise and comfort is God giving by continuing to send His word through called pastors today?
2. Read 2 Kings 4:1-7, 38-44, and 6:1-7. Here we see Elisha providing for the physical needs of those who were training to be prophets. In our day though we have no Elisha to work miracles, we have the church and the generosity Christ works in her to do the same thing. How can you encourage and help those training for the public ministry and support your pastor and his family?
