Father Role Models
And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?" Job 1:8 ESV
Job was the father of seven sons and three daughters. These offspring had an extraordinary father role model. While Job outlived his children due to them being killed in a violent wind storm, yet during the time they were alive their father showed them loving devotion in the best possible way. What was foremost in Job’s mind in regard to his children was their spiritual welfare. Wanting them to walk in the paths of God, he lived a godly life for them to imitate. Another way Job showed concern for his children is found in these words of God, “His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. And when the days of the feast had run their course, Job would send and consecrate them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, ‘It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.’ Thus Job did continually.” (Job 1:4-5)
According to the Word of God Job was a stand out believer who provides all of us with a wonderful example of how to deal with trials and tribulations. In a conversation the LORD had with Satan about Job, He said of him that “there is none like him on the earth.” (Job 1:8)
During the severe trials in which Satan tested Job’s faith, time and again Job remained true and faithful to the Lord. When during the course of a short period of time Job lost everything, his response was, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." (Job 1:21)
Let us suffer here with Jesus,
To His image, e'er conform;
Heaven's glory soon will please us,
Sunshine follow on the storm.
Though we sow in tears of sorrow,
We shall reap with heavenly joy;
And the fears that now annoy
Shall be laughter on the morrow.
Christ, I suffer here with Thee;
There, oh, share Thy joy with me!
