Love Stronger than the Mountains

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. Psalm 46:4-5

Isn’t that incredible? God says the mountains, as solid and permanent as they appear, can be moved and cast into the sea, but God’s people “shall not be moved.” God is in the midst of His Church, living among His people. God is their solid rock.

In Psalm 18, David calls God “my Rock.” He is not only a solid rock that cannot be moved, He is MY Rock. Therefore I cannot be moved either as long as my faith is anchored in Him.

Psalm 46 continues in verses 6-7: “The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.” Yes, the nations are raging against God, we see it all around. They will not last, but God and His Word last forever. And those who hear God’s Word and put it into practice build their house on that solid rock which will not be moved. Even when this world is destroyed, God will still be with us and we will be with Him.

Let’s close this week’s devotions with Psalm 30:4-7. “Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.” Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountains stand strong.”

Dear Father, you have promised to grant whatever we ask according to your will. Jesus tells us it is your will to give us the Holy Spirit. Therefore, fill me with your Spirit, I pray that my mountain may stand strong and immovable. Amen.
