2025-07-22 My Servant to Bring Salvation to the End of the earth

Isaiah’s Servant Passages

And now the Lord says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him— for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my strength— he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:5-6 (ESV)

In the Forty-Ninth Chapter of Isaiah, the Servant tells us that His purpose was given him before being formed in His mother; that His purpose was to bring the people of Jacob/Israel back to the LORD. He is successful because the LORD is His Strength.

But He doesn’t come only for the relatives of Jacob. No, that would be too small a thing. The plan devised by God’s mercy and carried out by God’s Servant has a much larger scope. He comes to be a light for the nations, one to chase the darkness of sin and death. He comes not only for the circumcised, but the uncircumcised, for those without any knowledge of the Living God or relationship with them. He comes to be their God as well.

I’m so glad that God doesn’t think small. I think you should be happy too, especially if you are not sons of Jacob by blood. He comes with salvation. He comes to forever deliver us from sin and its consequences, from death and the hell we have deserved. He’s not merely an example. He’s the servant of God who comes to do this for you.

Ah, look on me with pity Though I am weak and poor;
Admit me to Thy kingdom To dwell there, blest and sure.
I pray Thee, guide and keep me Safe from my bitter foes,
From sin and death and Satan; Free me from all my woes
The Lutheran Hymnal 130:5
