End Times
“And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Luke 21:27-28
These verses describe the day when Jesus, who ascended into heaven, will come again in the same way. The day when every eye will see Him. A day no one will miss. It is clear that this is Judgment Day. But notice two entirely opposite reactions to this. In Matthew 24:30, it says, “All the tribes of the earth will mourn.” In Luke 21:28, it says, “lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
On that day Jesus will mean business. There will be no more waiting, no more time for repentance, no more allowing evil to continue. For those who reject and hate him, that will be a terrible day indeed. This is the end we deserve for our sins, our laziness, our lovelessness, our self-centered foolishness. Yet for you who mourn over your sins now and trust in Him, what a joyful day that will be! A day of longing fulfilled, a day of deliverance and of a new creation and of everlasting light. It is a day to look to up. And do you see? The sign has been the same all along. The sign of the Child in the manger, the sign of the risen Savior, the sign of the God who dwells among us, His people, this is the One who comes. Look to the signs of Scripture that you might rejoice forever!
Mighty Lord, ascended above the heavens, leave us not alone, but come! That we who rightly mourn our wretchedness might be saved by Your mighty deliverance. Amen.
