2024-09-19 Planning with God

Ecclesiastes

Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is. For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a man? For who knows what is good for a man during his lifetime, during the few years of his futile life? He will spend them like a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun? Ecclesiastes 6:10-12 NASB1995

Do you complain about the outward circumstances of your life? Why? Are you going to dispute with Him who is stronger than you? There is only One who knows all things and who can control the course of events in the lives of men and nations. His plans shall be done either with us or in spite of us. Complaints are futile.

Sadly, the world thinks, "I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul." Or, they are fatalists: "Whatever will be will be." They are outsiders, who ignore God. Only we, who say, “Your will, not mine, be done,” will personally benefit as God works out His plans in and through us. We are God’s insiders, given access to His plan and its execution.

What is that plan? We see it in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, the Son of God. Since the beginning, this plan has not failed: our sins are forgiven, we have been brought to faith, and everything that happens is strictly controlled so that one day we will join Him in heaven. With faith in such a God, we will abound with blessings. Regardless of our outward circumstances, we will have inner peace and joy.

Make your plans, but do so with the words, "Not my will, but Yours be done.” Always remember: “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)

Thy way, not mine, O Lord,
However dark it be.
Lead me by Thine own hand;
Choose Thou the path for me.
