Lasting Treasures
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1:18
The unsearchable riches of Christ, the riches of His grace, the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God revealed in His Word, all reach their climax in the riches of the glory of His inheritance. That is the inheritance of heaven. Those are all treasures that last forever in eternal glory with God.
The Apostle Peter describes this glory this way: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5
This glory is a treasure that Jesus says cannot be corrupted by moth or rust. No one can break in and steal it from us. It won’t even “fade away.” Living in God’s presence will never get old. We will never take it for granted. That inheritance in heaven will always be overwhelming with the glory of God and fill our hearts with the fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
Keep your mind and heart focused on this treasure, and fill your life with all the things that will get you there: His Word which reveals to you all the riches of wisdom and knowledge, His grace which grants you His redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Whatever you set your heart on will direct your actions.
Gracious Lord, may I truly treasure your Word, your grace and forgiveness in Christ, and your gift of eternal life. Make these treasures the focus of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen
