1. The Psalms were inspired to be used by God’s people in their worship. Many hymns are praise and thanksgiving, others are confessions of sin, and still others are petitions for spiritual and physical needs. There are also some Psalms which are very much like our New Testament creeds, in which the people confess the truths of the Triune God. Read Psalm 118 and note where you see references to the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit. How does the psalm confess the preservation of God the Father? How does the psalm show the redemptive work of God the Son? How does the psalm express the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit that causes the believer to respond?
